Another marathon, another piece of history made!
Evelyna Dhamarrandji is an IMP 2013 Graduate who has a triple treat of marathons under her running belt after conquering New York, Gold Coast and on Sunday 7 May, the Vancouver Marathon was struck off her marathon bucket list.
Evelyna became the first Indigenous Australian to finish the Vancouver Marathon, another proud piece of history for our nation. She finished the marathon in a time of 6:12 with a few hills thrown in for an added challenge!
“It was awesome. I was struggling with the hills on the course, then I had to stop to look at the scenery. It’s the most beautiful run I’ve ever done,” she said.
Now back home in Galiwin’ku on Elcho Island, Evelyna is excited to show off her latest medal bling to her family and community.
“My body couldn’t take much more, but I got to the finish line and I got my medal,” she said.
Evelyna isn’t about to stop, ready to get stuck back into training ready to tackle the Melbourne Marathon in October.
