Friday 20th May – Wednesday 25th May
11 young men joined the team in Canberra for their first taste of long distance running based at the AIS.
The guys thrived on the running and enjoyed comradery. They all applied themselves in the Sports First Aid and gained their certificate along with completing components of the Cert III in Community Rec (Indigenous Healthy Lifestyles).
ASICS once again came through with the goods and decked the guys out in this seasons running gear and shoes.
Tuesday morning saw their first test event, a 16km run around Lake Burley Griffin. Apart from two of the guys who were nursing injuries the other 10 completed the course with confidence. They conducted themselves as a team and ecncouraged one another and pushed each other through to the finish.
Other camp highlights incude:
- Mt Aislie morning run
- Anotomy and physiology lessons
- Running tips from Deeks at Deeks
- Lake Ginindera Run
- Plunge Pool Session
- Stretching and warming up/cool down techniques
- and other local runs.
There is a great contrast between ages and regions with the mens team and each of the guys conducted themselves with maturity and enthusiasm and we look forward to seeing them all on the Gold Coast for the GC Airport Festival in July.
