Charlie Maher departed for Boston on the 14th of April to run his second marathon. He decided to run the event just two months prior and thought it would be great to run for the local Dialysis unit in Alice Springs.
Family, friends and fans all got behind Charlie and together raised $1,800 for Western Desert Dialysis, the Purple House in Alice Springs.
Charlie finished the Boston Marathon in a PB of 3hrs 22min 13 sec, which is more than 10 minutes quicker then New York.
Just five months after New York and off limited running training clocking a PB of this caliber is a testament to his natural running ability and determination.
He ran conservatively over the hilly and tough course and finished strongly.
Charlie said he felt strong, was a little worried about the Boston hills, especially the infamous Heartbreak Hill, but as it turned out they weren’t as hard as he expected!
Charlie conducted himself with distinction in every aspect, and endeared himself to many in Boston.
Charlie will be running in the Sydney City to Surf in August, good luck mate!
